Drag a 24-bit PNG file into the site and, in a couple of seconds, it will return an 8-bit version, but with a full 8-bit alpha channel. TinyPNG () offers a solution to this problem. Here’s an example of a 16-bit and an 8-bit PNG side by side, exported via Photoshop’s Save for Web dialog, in which you can see that the 8-bit version is unusable:įor users of older versions of Photoshop, this was an insurmountable problem: either you’d end up with vast sizes for the cutout images on your website, or you’d have to put up with ugly cutouts. Instead of the new Export command they have to use the Save for Web dialog, which does offer the option of an 8-bit file – but this comes with a bitmap alpha channel, producing hard-edged cutouts. Users of older versions of Photoshop, however, don’t have this option. This results in a much smaller size than exporting 24-bit PNG files for web delivery, 24-bit images are unnecessarily wasteful. Photoshop CC 2015 introduced the option of saving an 8-bit PNG with true transparency using its Export feature. Whether you use color profiles or not – it just works.Exporting a PNG file from Photoshop with transparency is a key requirement if you want to place images on a colored or textured background in your website. Images are converted to sRGB for maximum compatibility. The plugin analyzes your image and sets the quality intelligently. You no longer need to worry about optimum file sizes. Create a marquee selection or user slice to export part of the image. Scale your images to save them in different sizes. Directly save your images with exceptional JPEG and PNG compression. No need for additional steps in your workflow. It will use less bandwidth and load faster.

Use TinyPNG to shrink images for your apps and sites. The format uses compression, but the files can still be large. PNG is useful because it’s the only widely supported format that can store partially transparent images. The effect is nearly invisible but it makes a very large difference in file size! By selectively decreasing the number of colors in the image, fewer bytes are required to store the data. TinyPNG uses smart lossy compression techniques to reduce the file size of your WEBP, JPEG and PNG files. A new menu option will appear in Photoshop from where you can resize, preview, select a folder and save your images. Install the plugin and you will be ready to go. Save your compressed JPEG and PNG images directly from Photoshop. Compressing images just got a whole lot easier.
